Airbnb Referral Code

UPDATE 2022: It looks like Airbnb have now stopped their referral scheme for new Airbnb guests – boooooooooooooooo! But while you’re here, check out my top tips to save money when travelling!

With the lockdown set to continue and international travel looking increasingly unlikely for most of 2022, a lot of people will turn their heads to the sandy beaches and city breaks closer to home this year. Even though Airbnb has been around since 2008 and can hardly be considered a start-up anymore they still offer a refer a friend scheme.

When you’ve signed up with my Airbnb referral code you’ll automatically get the discount taken off the final cost at checkout when you book a stay of £160 or more, or £9 off an experience when you spend £36 or more.

Airbnb is great because it can meet any budget. From staying in someone’s god awful spare room near Heathrow when you just need somewhere to kip before an early flight. To luxury penthouse apartments in Madrid with concierge service. You can often get rooms for 2/3x less than a hotel stay and the savings can add up if you travel a lot.

I also like staying with Airbnb hosts as they are often extremely friendly and happy to help you out with any questions or local knowledge. I stayed in a place in San Francisco where the host gave so much good information. From the best trams to take and they even had bikes we could borrow at no extra cost. Breakfast was served in the morning too. It didn’t feel like we were in their way at any point, and we only saw them on check-in and check-out.

On another Airbnb trip, we stayed with a pilot who took us up in the air for just the cost of the fuel. It was a really cool experience and we thanked him with a few beers afterward at the bar next to the airport. You can meet some really interesting characters you might not have done by staying in a chain hotel.

It’s not without its problems though. Lots of residents of metropolitan cities such as London, New York, and Barcelona have hit back against Airbnb. Citing it as a big problem for property availability. Flats and houses are being bought up by the thousands purely to list on Airbnb. Leading to hiked rental prices and average property prices. There have also been cases of sub-lettings where the host can often make up to 3x what they pay in rent to their landlord.

One thing I would suggest keeping a close eye on is the cleaning fees for staying at the property. A few opportunistic hosts list the property at a low advertised price per night, but add on a hefty cleaning fee. So my advice would be to check the total cost before you book.

If you found this useful I’d also recommend getting cashback from Sixt for renting a car to drive to the Airbnb as well as the BA Amex card for racking up Avios rewards points on your travels.

There are lots of variations for how people search for refer a friend codes, some call them promo codes or promotional codes, voucher or discount codes, coupons in the U.S, or even refferal codes if they have misspelled.
