Hive have established themselves in the market as the experts of stylish thermostats, security cameras, lighting, and infectious advertising jingles.

They’ve also strayed into making smart radiator valves and smart leak detection kits. This is such a niche product that’s been made out of the distrust people have with their internal plumbing. Wouldn’t it just be easier to just get new plumbing than have a smart tool that gives you an hour head start before your house starts to flood with water?

Hive also sell window, door, and room sensors which I was dubious at first when I saw them as to how useful they are. Looking further into it makes a lot of sense.

You can set up schedules for when you leave the house or enter it based on the door or window shutting, opening, or entering a room. Or you can set smart lighting to come on when you enter a room. This is great for rooms you rarely go into or for going to the loo in the middle of the night when you barely walk in a straight line.

In saying that though there’s also the question of how lazy are you if you can’t turn your spare room light switch when you go in to get some towels from the airing cupboard. I’ve been bamboozled by the Hive marketing. I’m compromised.

Hive’s website also has tonnes of user guide content and support that’s simplified and easy to watch. This alone makes it worth paying the extra for Hive if you are new to smart technology or just need some help in setting up.
